The National Monuments Service's description
Situated towards the E end of an E-W drumlin ridge. This is an overgrown circular area (diam. c. 30m) defined by a large earthen bank that is separated by a fosse from a smaller middle bank. This is separated by another fosse from a third earthen bank, which is the smallest. At ENE there is an entrance through the inner (Wth of base 3.5m) and middle (Wth of base 3.2m) banks with causeways across the inner (Wth of top 2.4m; H 1.2m) and outer (Wth of top 2.1m; H c. 0.5m) fosses. The outermost bank could be original and it has an entrance (Wth of base 3.1m) at ENE but this entrance is convenient for farm buildings to the E, and the outer bank is skirted by a farm lane NW-NE.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
