The National Monuments Service's description
Situated immediately NW of a fulacht fia (MA085-008003-). It stands on a level patch of ground at N foot of a steep-sided steep rise. The hut site comprises a relatively level, stone- free grassy area, roughly circular in plan (N–S c. 8.7m, E–W 7.75m) and defined by an intermit- tent scatter of boulders and stones (H 0.4m max.). No definite trace of an entrance is visible, although there are numerous gaps amid the boulders. In wet weather, a curving band of water accumulates c. 2m outside the line of the house (on the up-slope side) from SE through S to SW: possibly the shadow of a drainage gully. A geophysical survey was carried out on this monument in 1993, but neither the magnetic susceptibility or the apparent resistivity results registered any trace of the house (see Slater 1996, described under the monument labelled MN 6).
The above description is derived from: New Survey of Clare Island. Volume 5: Archaeology. Edited by Paul Gosling, Conleth Manning and John Waddell. (Royal Irish Academy, Dublin. 2007). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated.
