Ringfort - rath

In pasture, at the S end of the townland, located on top of a NNW-SSE ridge, overlooking flat expanses of bog and reclaimed pasture. Part of the ridge has been quarried away c. 100m to NW.
Slightly raised oval area (28m E-W; 22m N-S to field fence) defined SW−SE by an earthen scarp (H 0.8m at W; 1.5m at NE) and at SSE−SSW by a field fence with associated field drain. The field fence appears to have truncated the original S perimeter of the rath; it is thickly covered in overgrowth and it is not possible to determine if it might incorporate part of an original enclosing bank or scarp.
The interior is level and grassy, except in SE quadrant where ground slopes to S and is covered by spreading clumps of gorse and brambles. A low stony rise of unknown significance can be glimpsed –but not closely examined - beneath this overgrowth to S of centre.
A tractor track skirts the E side of the enclosure, following a slight dip or terrace in ground level. This dip may indicate the line of an external fosse.
The rath perimeter in ringed with hawthorn and gorse.
