The National Monuments Service's description

Situated towards the S end of Costre Lough (dims c. 280m NE-SW; c. 180m NW-SE). A small island is depicted on the 1835 and 1911 editions of the OS 6-inch map. This is an overgrown circular area (diam. 20m) with a raised central mound (diam. 3m). There may be a causeway visible as a line of reeds to the shore at SE, and three light timbers (diam. c. 0.05m; L c. 1m) are visible beneath the water at NW.

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
