The National Monuments Service's description

In undulating countryside. Carved Hiberno-Romanesque architectural fragments in the graveyard (Roe. Helen M., Unpublished 28-31). Romanesque fragment of a doorway jamb with diagonal tooling visible. At least 7 architectural fragments are scattered throughout the graveyard some, which appears to have been fabric from the medieval church. One of these stones are the remains of a large sandstone capital lying near the S boundary wall of the graveyard (LA015-023002-), this capital comes from a 12th century doorway of the church. On a recent site inspection the scalloped capital was located on the SE angle of the E gable of the levelled church in the centre of the graveyard. Other architectural fragments were scattered around the wall footings of this levelled building.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
