The National Monuments Service's description
In marshy land on a valley floor. The castle (KK003-004001-) and bawn (KK003-004002-) of Castletown are situated on a flat-topped platform. Within the bawn, along the N side, there are the remains of a number of buildings. A slight bank (H 0.3m; Wth 1m), possibly the remains of the bawn wall, runs along the edge of the N side of the platform and turns southward at the NE angle for c. 8m where it is 4m from the E edge of the platform. There are some short low banks (max. L 6m) at right angles to the N bank, and one at right angles to the E bank (L 3m) which may be the remains of buildings built up against the bawn wall. These earthworks may relate to a stone house which is indicated on the Down Survey maps (1655-6) in this general area.
