The National Monuments Service's description
On the S bank of the Ouveg River. An oval earthwork (dims. c. 27m NW-SE; c. 18m NE-SW) is depicted on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map with '(Site of) Castle' in Gothic script beside it. According to Carrigan (1905, vol. 2, 113), the 'castle [KK001-006001-] stood beside a high moat in a field called "the Kruckawn" or "Old Castle," close to Castlemarket bridge. It formerly belonged to the Earls of Ormond. It was destroyed, together with the adjoining moat, about 1800'. The motte is not visible at ground level.
