The National Monuments Service's description

In a rath (KE058-090----). A small opening (L 1.25m N-S; Wth 0.75m E-W) in the NW quadrant of the rath slopes down to the N for c. 1.25m into what may be the original entrance to this souterrain. There are small shallow depressions to the S and SW of the opening and a possible capstone lies on the ground immediately to the S. A passage beneath the opening extends to the N for a short distance and then turns to the W. There is rough drystone walling on both sides of the passage. The roof of the passage is corbelled. A linear feature (on a N-S axis) in the interior of the rath to the E of the souterrain opening, appears to extend to the S and SW and may relate to the souterrain. This is the 'cavern', referred to in the 1840s as being in a 'fort' in Scarteen townland (OSNB, Aghadoe, no. 1, 7).
