The National Monuments Service's description
This site is situated on elevated ground directly E of and above the road and the Owenascaul river. The bend on the road near the site is known locally as 'the turn of the Caisleán', and Ashe (1954, 8) described the site as 'the foundations of the ancient stronghold or castle'. The present remains are densely overgrown and difficult to interpret but could,represent a hut-site. They consist of a raised stony area measuring 11.6m N-S x 10.4m E-W x 1m in height. There is a bank enclosing all but the SE sector and this defines an internal area c. 5.7m N-S x 7.5m E-W.
