The National Monuments Service's description
In 1837, O'Conor, who co-compiled the OSL for County Kildare, mentions the existence of, ‘… the ruins of an old Castle’ (Herity 2002, 97 [30]). Tickell says this castle, ‘… was replaced by a farmhouse’, and that the castle and lands of Colbinstown were at first leased by the Eustaces from the Wesleys of Narragh, but were later owned by the 1st Viscount Baltinglass, passing to the widow of his third son Alexander who was born in 1508 (1960, 382-3). While there is no visible surface trace of the castle, sub-surface deposits may, however, survive intact.
