Enclosure - large enclosure

On a S-facing slope in rough grassland. This poorly preserved irregular enclosure (c. 72m E-W) is defined by a collapsed drystone wall which is indicated by a low stony mound from NE through E to SW. Field walls overlie it from NE to E and at SW; traces of an internal revetment are visible from E to S. Apart from slight traces at W, no visible surface trace of the enclosing element survives from SW to NE. An entrance gap (Wth 2m) occurs at E, its N side is defined by a large upright slab. A roughly NNW-SSE running field wall cuts across the monument from WNW to SSW and another wall running ENE-WSW extends off this, cutting the enclosing element at ENE. According to Holt (1912, 230), the 'fort' was known as 'Parknaree' and the only tradition he heard regarding it was that people were buried in it. Within the E half of the interior lie the remains of another enclosure (GA102-009001-). Current aerial imagery (Google 2019) indicates that houses have been built in the field immediately to the W of the NNW-SSE running field wall. (McCaffrey 1952, 175, no. 11a)
