The National Monuments Service's description
Local tradition of souterrain previously filled in; no visible surface trace. (WBBS). Myler (1998, 45) informs us that the field in which the possible souterrain occurs is known locally as the 'convent field'. Myler (1998, 45) also gives an account (taken in 1938) of men entereing an underground passage on the site
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
