The National Monuments Service's description
Archaeological testing was carried out in the vicinity of a rath (CO087-030----) and souterrain (C0087-089----) in advance of a large multi-phase housing development at Carrigaline Middle in 2001. A pit (F21), measuring 0.15m by 0.18m and containing a fill of silty clay with frequent inclusions of charcoal and heat-shattered stones, was uncovered to the N of the rath (CO087-030----). The pit was referred to by the excavator as a burnt pit. (Sherlock 2002, 1-27; 2003l, 33; 2004, 62-3)
