The National Monuments Service's description
Within the historic town (CO027-042----) of Glanworth, to the SW of 'Rock Abbey' (CO027-040----). Sixteen medieval pits were excavated in advance of a housing development in Boherash townland in 2004. One of the pits was only partially excavated. The pits, which were situated in trench 3, ranged in diameter from 0.4 to 3.6m and in depth from 0.2 to 2.05m and varied from circular to oval in plan. The pits have been assigned a medieval date based on the recovery of medieval pottery in the fills or on the stratigraphic sequence (Cleary 2007, 99). Cork-type pottery was recovered from the fills of twelve of the pits and two of these same pits also contained Redcliffe pottery while another contained Merida-type pottery. A broken quernstone lay at the base beneath the fill another of the pits, suggesting a medieval date. A late 13th-century pit (F133) and another undated pit (F143) were situated within a hut site (CO027-201----), located in the SE corner of this trench. (Cleary 2006a; 2007, 87-126)
