Ringfort - cashel

In a slight fold at the bottom of a N-facing slope, in rough pasture. Hachured on the OS 25-inch plan (1897) and 1920 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the RMP. This subcircular cashel (20.7m E-W; 20.3m N-S) is defined by a double-faced stone wall (Wth 2.2-3.3m; int. H max. 0.6m; ext. H 1m). Stone spill (Wth. 3.3-4.6m; H max. 0.6m) around the edge of the interior obscures the inner wall-face. A later drystone wall is built over the outer wall-face from W to N. Later drystone structures are built on the wall and the stone spill of the perimeter at SE-SW. Two modern rectangular drystone structures are built against the outer wall-face at N and E. The structure at N (int. dims. 7m E-W; 3.25m N-S) has a double-faced wall (H max. 1.5m). The E structure (int. dims. 5m N-S; 1.7m E-W; H max. 1.4m) is more dilapidated, but with a doorway and cupboard in its E wall. A hut site (CL009-084030-) lies c. 81m to the SE and an enclosure (CL009-084011-) lies c. 85m to the NNE.
