The National Monuments Service's description

On slightly raised ground which is clear from rock in a generally rocky area c. 200m to the SE of the foreshore with fair views to the N and E. Indicated on the 1915 OS 6-inch map by a curved boundary. A roughly circular cashel (int. dims. 22m E-W; 21.5m N-S) defined by a drystone wall or bank (H 0.25m; T 1.6m) with visible inner facing at N and visible outer facing (H 0.3-0.4m) at SW and from WNW to N (H 0.5-0.8m). The original outer face may be preserved at NNE, S, SW and W where it is overgrown or covered with rubble. The enclosing wall or bank is low from NNE-SE where only occasional inner or outer facing-stones are visible A gap at ESE (Wth 2.2m) may be an original entrance. The interior is flat and rocky. Large quantities of small stones located along the cashel wall from NE to S, which are particularly scattered in the S, may have formed part of the internal wall. An overgrown trench (Wth 2-3m; ext. D 1-1.2m below the wall or bank) along the external perimeter of the cashel from SE to S gives the impression of a fosse. Field walls abutting the perimeter of the cashel at NNE, S and NW may be contemporary.
