Historique
En 1741, l'ingénieur du roi Antoine-Marie Desforges-Boucher dessine un magasin à poudre, édifié en 1751. Entouré d'un haut mur d'enceinte en moellons liés à la chaux, il se dresse sur une colline, à contre pente des tirs pouvant parvenir de la mer. A l'extérieur, les murs présentent un appareil constitué de basalte taillé. Six contreforts épaulent les façades Est et ouest. Le pignon est souligné d'une corniche, décor exceptionnel sur un édifice du 18e siècle à la Réunion. De même pour le blason aux armes du roi de France qui surmonte la porte d'entrée.

History
In 1741, the king's engineer Antoine-Marie Desforges-Boucher designs a powder magazine, erected in 1751. Surrounded by a high enclosure wall in rubble stone bound with lime, it stands on a hill, counter-sloped against fire that might come from the sea. Externally, the walls present a facing of dressed basalt. Six buttresses strengthen the east and west façades. The gable is underlined by a cornice, exceptional decoration on a building of the 18th century in Réunion. Similarly for the coat of arms with the arms of the King of France which surmounts the entrance door.
