En 1810, les troupes anglaises débarquent à la Grande Chaloupe et gagnent Saint-Denis. La plaine de la Redoute est le champ de bataille d'un unique combat entre cipayes et troupes créoles. Deux obélisques, l'un érigé par les Anglais en 1810, l'autre par les Français en 1857, honorent la mémoire des soldats morts dans les deux camps. Celui des Anglais se dressait dans la plaine de la Redoute, mais a été déplacé vers 1963 sur son site actuel. History
In 1810, English troops landed at Grande Chaloupe and reached Saint-Denis. The plain of the Redoute is the field of battle of a single combat between sepoys and Creole troops.
