Suite à l'éruption de la Montagne Pelée en 1902, un observatoire fut construit et utilisé jusqu'en 1925. Après l'éruption de 1929-1932, la construction de l'observatoire actuel fut décidée. Le sismographe monumental est toujours en place et en état de fonctionnement. Il partage, avec l'église du Prêcheur, la primauté des constructions en béton en Martinique.

History
