De l'abbaye fondée au 11e siècle et qui adopte la règle de Saint-Augustin, il reste peu de vestiges. L'abbaye est pillée pendant les guerres de religion. En 1655, elle est réunie à la congrégation de Sainte-Geneviève. Les bâtiments conventuels sont entièrement relevés au 17e siècle, dont le logis abbatial en 1667. Après la Révolution, la ville de Thouars choisit d'y installer son hôtel de ville. Le bâtiment fait l'objet d'importants travaux de restauration et d'aménagements intérieurs : il ne reste plus grand chose d'origine à l'intérieur en dehors des escaliers et de la salle des mariages aux boiseries très restaurées. C'est une construction de composition très régulière, en pierre de taille (élévation sud) et moellon enduit, avec une couverture à pans brisés en ardoise ajourée de lucarnes en pierre. L'édifice compte un niveau de caves, un rez-de-chaussée, un premier étage et un étage de combles aménagés ; tous les niveaux sont desservis par les deux escaliers : l'escalier principal, en pierre avec une voûte porteuse en demi-berceau ; l'escalier de service, à mur noyau avec marches en pierre

History
Of the abbey founded in the 11th century and which adopted the rule of Saint-Augustine, little remains. The abbey was pillaged during the Wars of Religion. In 1655, it was united with the congregation of Sainte-Geneviève. The convent buildings were entirely rebuilt in the 17th century, including the abbatial dwelling in 1667. After the Revolution, the town of Thouars chose to install its town hall there. The building was the subject of major restoration and interior arrangement work: little of the original remains inside apart from the staircases and the wedding room with much-restored panelling. It is a construction of very regular composition, in ashlar (south elevation) and rubble stone render, with a roof of broken slopes in slate pierced by stone dormers. The building has a basement level, a ground floor, a first floor and an attic floor; all levels are served by two staircases: the main staircase, in stone with a half-barrel vault covering; the service staircase, with newel core and stone steps.
