History
The fountain was built in 1822-1823 following the plans of the architect Louis Nicolas Well, as part of an overall project including the large fountain and other hydraulic installations. The ensemble comprises a fountain between two troughs backed by a covered washhouse. This washhouse is a small hall supported by stone ashlar pillars with Greek Doric capitals and without base, inspired by the temples of Paestum. This washhouse inaugurates a series of other washhouses of the same inspiration subsequently built in the department by the same architect.
