Sans doute construit en 1685, il s'agit d'un élément du puits d'alimentation en eau de la forteresse de Vauban, pour la partie civile de la place. En 1738, il est mentionné comme « puits servant aux bourgeois et aux troupes ». Il est implanté dans un bâtiment carré surmonté d'un toit à quatre pans couvert d'ardoises. Ses murs sont en appareil de granit taillé. A l'intérieur, l'accès à l'eau est actuellement obturé par un plancher. Remanié au 19ème siècle, il a connu de multiples usages: marché couvert, caserne de pompiers, syndicat d'initiative.

History
Probably built in 1685, this is an element of the water supply well for the Vauban fortress, for the civilian part of the fortified town. In 1738, it is mentioned as 'well serving the bourgeois and the troops'. It is set within a square building surmounted by a roof with four slopes covered with slate. Its walls are in ashlar granite. Inside, access to water is currently blocked by a floor. Remodelled in the 19th century, it has known multiple uses: covered market, fire station, tourist information office.
