Adossé aux remparts, le monument se présente sous la forme d'un long mur sur lequel s'appuient deux statues encadrant la liste des morts : d'un côté, le paysan basque, accompagné de son bœuf, qui tire une charrue, et de l'autre, un Poilu de garde. L'édifice fut construit en 1923, daprès les plans des architectes Molinié-Nicod et Pouthier, associés au sculpteur Brasseur. L'inauguration a lieu le 11 novembre 1924.

Leaning against the ramparts, the monument presents itself in the form of a long wall upon which rest two statues framing the list of the dead: on one side, the Basque peasant, accompanied by his ox, pulling a plough, and on the other, a French soldier on guard.
