La fosse n°5 de la Compagnie des mines de Meurchin fut foncée en 1904 pour atteindre une profondeur de 395 mètres. Elle cessera son activité d'extraction en 1937 mais sera maintenue pour le service et comme retour d'air pour une partie des travaux de la fosse 3-4 sur la commune de Wingles et ce, jusqu'en 1963, où elle abandonne toute fonction. Le puits sera remblayé en 1965. Les installations sont préservées et le chevalement est transformé pour en faire une tour de fabrication de plombs de chasse

History
Pit no. 5 of the Meurchin Mining Company was sunk in 1904 to reach a depth of 395 metres. It ceased extraction activity in 1937 but was maintained for service and as an air return for part of the work of pit 3-4 in the commune of Wingles until 1963, when it ceased all function. The shaft was backfilled in 1965. The installations are preserved and the headframe is transformed to make it a tower for the manufacture of hunting shot.
