Shortly after the opening of pit 1, the pavilion settlement was built to house Polish workers. The large offices were constructed between the pit and the church probably in 1875, with the central workshops. The stores are enlarged in 1882-1883. In 1889-1890, an annex to the warehouses was created. In 1890-1890 an annex for the workshops and works was constructed. The large offices were organised according to a regular plan of two wings framing a central pavilion and terminated by two corner pavilions. The central pavilion was pierced by a carriage entrance giving access to a rear courtyard on to which opened the six adjoining naves of the central workshops, placed perpendicular to the large offices building. On the right, under the covered passage of the central pavilion, a staircase allowed access to the management offices, on the first floor. The large offices were modified between the two wars. The left pavilion was refaced and extended by a large pavilion with returning wing to the rear, in Art Deco style.
