Premier édifice français élevé au moment de l'institution, par le pape Pie IX, du dogme de l'Immaculée Conception. Le projet est lancé en 1854. Ruprich-Robert conçoit un édifice à nef unique d'inspiration néo-romane. Le chantier démarre en 1855. L'église est ouverte au culte en 1859. L'ensemble de la statuaire est confié au sculpteur Leharivel-Durocher. Les vitraux de Maréchal et Champigneulle, mis en place en 1872, remplacent les verrières en grisaille dessinées par Ruprich-Robert. History
