Historique
Claire Josèphe Hippolyte Lérie de Latude, dite Hippolyte Clairon, fut l'une des grandes tragédienne du 18e siècle. Elle fut membre de la Comédie Française et illustra particulièrement les pièces de Voltaire qui la considérait comme sa meilleure interprète dans le registre tragique. A la fin du 19e siècle, sa ville natale voulut lui rendre hommage par l'érection d'un monument, placé face au théâtre. La commande fut confiée à l'architecte Henri Guillaume et au sculpteur Henri Gauquié qui présenta un modèle en 1898. Le jardinet et la clôture destinés à isoler et mettre en valeur le monument, furent dessinés par l'architecte Edmond Lemaire. La réalisation a été faite en 1904. La réalisation de la grille, marquée par l'Art Nouveau, diffère du projet dessiné, plus conventionnel.

History
Claire Josèphe Hippolyte Lérie de Latude, called Hippolyte Clairon, was one of the great tragedians of the 18th century. She was a member of the Comédie Française and particularly illustrated the plays of Voltaire who considered her his best interpreter in the tragic register. At the end of the 19th century, her native town wished to pay her homage by the erection of a monument, placed facing the theatre. The commission was entrusted to the architect Henri Guillaume and the sculptor Henri Gauquié who presented a model in 1898. The small garden and the enclosure intended to isolate and enhance the monument were designed by the architect Edmond Lemaire. The realization was completed in 1904.
