En 1817, l'huilerie installée par Joseph Claeyssens en 1789 est transformée en distillerie de genièvre par son fils. Un plan de 1824 permet de constater l'origine et l'authenticité des bâtiments. Les bâtiments des moulins sont ajoutés dans les années 1880 à l'identique. Un silo en béton est construit dans les années 1930 (il doit être démoli pour la réalisation d'un parking). Il s'agit d'un exceptionnel ensemble de bâtiments homogènes, encore en activité (y compris le matériel du début du 19e siècle) , en bon état et entretenus. Le passage à grand gabarit du canal de la Deûle a perturbé le site, détruisant les bâtiments de l'ancienne malterie. Un seul de ces bâtiments subsiste désormais de l'autre côté du pont. Cette distillerie, qui regroupe un bâtiment des moulins, un bâtiment de cuisson, un bâtiment de fermentation, une salle de distillation, une pièce de séchage, un bâtiment de stockage, des anciens bureaux et un logement de concierge regroupés autour d'une ancienne cour d'honneur pavée, est actuellement l'une des trois dernières distilleries en activité dans le Nord-Pas-de-Calais. History
In 1817, the oil mill established by Joseph Claeyssens in 1789 was transformed into a juniper distillery by his son. A plan from 1824 makes it possible to ascertain the origin and authenticity of the buildings. The mill buildings were added in the 1880s identically. A concrete silo was built in the 1930s (it is to be demolished for the construction of a car park). It is an exceptional ensemble of homogeneous buildings, still in operation (including equipment from the early 19th century), in good condition and well maintained. The passage of large-gauge boats on the Deûle canal disturbed the site, destroying the buildings of the former malthouse. Only one of these buildings now survives on the other side of the bridge. This distillery, which groups together a mill building, a cooking building, a fermentation building, a distillation room, a drying room, a storage building, former offices and a porter's lodge arranged around an old paved courtyard of honour, is currently one of the last three active distilleries in Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Bringing together all phases of Juniper manufacture, it also constitutes a flagship element in the development of regional industrial tourism (juniper river route).
