"En 1880, Ernest de Blignières entreprend la rénovation du "Vieux Bot" pour y installer sa collection d'objets d'art arabes, constituée lors de son séjour au Caire dans les fonctions de contrôleur de la dette égyptienne contractée lors du creusement du canal de Suez. Le projet est confié à l'architecte Maigné qui dessine les plans en 1877. Le nouvel édifice reproduit le parti architectural précédent, en rehaussant la construction d'un étage : corps de logis allongé, encadré de deux ailes perpendiculaires saillantes côté sud. L'édifice est achevé en 1883. L'aménagement et la décoration des pièces de réception sont confiés à l'architecte Ambroise Baudry qui réalise un décor de style orientalisant à partir d'éléments provenant de chantiers de démolition de vieux édifices en Egypte."
