Historique
Situé à moins de 3 km de la côte, le site de Crisbecq Saint Marcouf offre une position idéale sur le secteur allant de Saint Vaast la Hougue à Grandcamp. Une importante batterie d'artillerie côtière y est implantée à partir de mai 1942 avec la construction d'encuvements destinés à abriter 6 canons de 15.5 cm. L'organisation Todt complète le dispositif par l'adjonction de différents ouvrages (soutes à munitions, abris, poste de direction de tir de type Lei stand) en décembre 1942. Un second poste de direction de tir rattaché à la batterie d'Azeville est édifié en juillet 1943. Les travaux sont poursuivis en 1944 avec la construction de trois casemates, dont restera inachevée, et de plusieurs ouvrages abritant des pièces d'artillerie antiaérienne. Cette batterie est la seule à engager le combat avec la flotte alliée au matin du 6 juin 1944 et se distinguera dans la lutte menée contre des troupes américaines de la 4ème division d'infanterie remontant vers Cherbourg avant d'être prise par ces dernières le 12 juin 1944.

History
Located less than 3 km from the coast, the Crisbecq Saint Marcouf site offers an ideal position on the sector ranging from Saint Vaast la Hougue to Grandcamp. An important coastal artillery battery is established there from May 1942 with the construction of gun emplacements intended to shelter 6 guns of 15.5 cm. The Organization Todt completes the device by the addition of various structures (ammunition bunkers, shelters, fire direction post of Lei stand type) in December 1942. A second fire direction post attached to the Azeville battery is built in July 1943. Work is continued in 1944 with the construction of three casemates, one of which will remain unfinished, and several structures housing anti-aircraft artillery pieces. This battery is the only one to engage in combat with the Allied fleet in the morning of 6 June 1944 and will distinguish itself in the struggle against American troops of the 4th Infantry Division moving towards Cherbourg before being taken by the latter on 12 June 1944.
