At the end of 1942 or beginning of 1943, two powerful naval guns (203 mm; 36 km range) positioned at Barneville Carteret are transported by rail over part of the route leading to Auderville Laye in La Hague. On site, two large platforms equipped with a circular running track have already been built to receive them. In this way, it becomes possible to rotate the two pieces through 360 degrees. The aforementioned platforms are placed at the centre of a sort of vast gun emplacement consisting of a concrete bank and in which are found in each of them two secondary ammunition bunkers as well as a Vf2a type shelter for personnel. The Germans camouflaged the easternmost gun emplacement with a remarkably (and rarely) distinctive exterior covering composed of a mixture of straw, asbestos, powdered rubber and cement (called Asbest) which is found on certain structures of the H.K.B. 4./706 "Stahl" battery at Auderville la Roche. Outside the actual firing positions, four Vf7b type ammunition bunkers are constructed to which are added three Regelbau 502 for troop accommodation (one would have served as an infirmary) and a shelter for signals (Sonderkonstruktion). The battery is furthermore protected by two 155 mm howitzers and by two Flak guns as well as by a few Tobrouks. It is attached to the H.K.A.R.1262 in December 1943 of which it becomes the third battery. It is then officially numbered Stützpunkt 356. On 28 June 1944, the Auderville Laye battery is attacked by formations of American bombers and fighter-bombers. The pieces are put out of action following these air strikes. There is no need to stress how vulnerable the two open gun emplacements proved to be in these circumstances. On 1 July 1944, the garrison surrenders to American troops who inexorably invest the last positions in La Hague still held by the German army. 24 elements in total
