L'emplacement du domaine de Fondat fut occupé dès le Moyen Age par des seigneurs de la région. A partir de 1607, une famille noble originaire de Marsan achète le domaine et le conserve jusqu'à la fin du 19e siècle. Le château, dévasté à deux reprises, fut reconstruit au milieu du 17e siècle. Il fut remanié au 19e siècle, dans un style néo-Renaissance. Le château est un des éléments d'un vaste ensemble constitué de dépendances de grande qualité, dont un chai à armagnac et un colombier du 17e siècle, et d'un parc aux arbres bicentenaires (aux essences exotiques) dont il reste des vestiges d'un ordonnancement remontant aussi au 17e siècle.

History
The location of the Fondat estate was occupied from the Middle Ages by lords of the region. From 1607, a noble family originating from Marsan purchased the estate and retained it until the end of the 19th century. The castle, devastated on two occasions, was rebuilt in the middle of the 17th century. It was altered in the 19th century, in a Neo-Renaissance style. The castle is one of the elements of a vast complex consisting of outbuildings of high quality, including an armagnac cellar and a 17th-century dovecot, and a park with bicentennial trees (of exotic species) of which vestiges remain of an arrangement dating back also to the 17th century.
