History

Description

The manor stands at the heart of the bastide, at the southern corner of the place des Tilleuls onto which opens a series of arcades forming a gallery on the ground floor of the buildings. The edifice was part of a larger complex named Castel which belonged to the d'Abadie d'Aydrein family whose origins would date back to the 16th century. From 1886, Gustave Dufour appealed to architect Elie du Cor de Duprat to bring together several buildings (the polygonal tower, a manor from the 18th century and former dependencies of the castle) to form the 'manoir Dufour'. At the same period, benefiting from the repurchase of the street, he extended the wing onto the square in order to install there the cabinet of curiosities of his father Léon Dufour (1780-1865) physician and naturalist from the Landes, whose botanical garden in Bordeaux preserves the herbarium, making extensive use of timber framing.
