L'église du 18e siècle, plusieurs fois agrandie, était devenue trop petite pour répondre au développement urbain de Morez. En 1810, un emplacement est choisi et nivelé. En 1814, le projet de Denis-Philibert Lapret est retenu. A son décès, la réalisation fut confiée à l'architecte Claude-Marie Dalloz qui modifia considérablement le projet. L'église est consacrée en 1827. L'édifice néo-classique en pierre de taille blanche domine la place par son péristyle à fronton accompagné de deux clochers-porches. Le plan en est basilical. Le vaisseau central est couvert d'une fausse voûte en berceau à caissons que termine la fausse voûte en cul de four de l'abside. Le mobilier, les stalles et les lambris du choeur sont d'origine, dessinés et réalisés par les Besand.

History
The 18th-century church, enlarged several times, had become too small to meet the urban development of Morez. In 1810, a location was chosen and levelled. In 1814, the project by Denis-Philibert Lapret was selected. Following his death, the realization was entrusted to architect Claude-Marie Dalloz who considerably modified the project. The church was consecrated in 1827. The neo-classical building in white cut stone dominates the square by its peristyle with pediment accompanied by two porch towers. The plan is basilical. The central nave is covered with a false barrel vault with coffering which is terminated by the false semi-dome vault of the apse. The furnishings, the choir stalls and the choir panelling are original, designed and executed by the Besand.
