A l'occasion d'une campagne d'amélioration du régime des eaux, en 1880, la municipalité décida la construction d'une fontaine sur la nouvelle place. Le projet de l'architecte Louis Rousseau prévoyait une fontaine octogonale avec un piédestal portant un buste de la république, mais les élus souhaitèrent un ouvrage plus monumental. En 1884, l'ouvrage est réalisé. Le bassin monolithe quadrilobé porte, au centre, la pile de jet avec quatre mascarons en fonte. Elle forme le piédestal d'une colonne cannelée en brocatelle de Molinges. History
On the occasion of a campaign to improve the water supply system, in 1880, the municipality decided on the construction of a fountain in the new square. The project of architect Louis Rousseau envisioned an octagonal fountain with a pedestal bearing a bust of the Republic, but the elected representatives desired a more monumental work. In 1884, the work is completed. The monolithic quadrilobed basin bears, at the centre, the jet pier with four cast-iron mascarons. It forms the pedestal of a fluted column in Molinges brocatelle.
