Il s'agit d'un édifice inclus dans le programme de la Reconstruction de l'après Seconde Guerre Mondiale. Réalisé selon les plans des architectes Henry Auffret et Joël Hardion, il fut mis en service en 1949. Bien que respectant une continuité typologique définie au 19ème siècle, il affiche son appartenance à son époque dans le traitement de la rotonde supérieure et des intérieurs, ces derniers attestant du souci des architectes d'améliorer les conditions d'existence des gardiens. Le Grand-Jardin est un des deux seuls phares de pleine mer de la Reconstruction. Il fut automatisé en 1978.

History
This is a building included in the post-Second World War Reconstruction programme. Realized according to the plans of architects Henry Auffret and Joël Hardion, it was put into service in 1949. Although respecting a typological continuity defined in the 19th century, it displays its belonging to its era in the treatment of the upper rotunda and the interiors, the latter testifying to the architects' concern to improve the living conditions of the keepers. The Grand-Jardin is one of only two open-sea lighthouses of the Reconstruction. It was automated in 1978.
