Originaire du Rouergue, la famille de Nattes s'installe à Saint-Thibéry en 1642. En 1759, elle se fixe à Béziers. L'hôtel de Nattes est implanté sur une grande parcelle autrefois morcelée. Il présente une implantation particulière contrainte par un îlot en forme de proue. Au sud, la façade à bossages, ordonnancée sur 3 niveaux, était percée d'une série d'arcades. Les ouvertures des étages, aux cadres moulurés sont ornées de garde-corps de balcons en élégante ferronnerie. Le portail ouvre sur un porche-vestibule circulaire donnant accès à la cour, couvert d'une coupole à voûte surbaissée en pierre de taille. A l'origine, les murs étaient ornés d'un décor peint révélé par la récente découverte d'un grand cartouche monumental de grisaille en trompe-l'oeil. A la fin du XIXe siècle, le nouveau propriétaire, Charles Victor Fulcrand Delpon de Vaux fait appel à l'architecte Léopold Carlier pour des projets de réaménagement. L'architecte crée, au rez-de-chaussée, deux boutiques entraînant la suppression des arcades de part et d'autre de l'entrée. Le premier étage de l'aile sud est transformé au goût éclectique du jour, avec notamment la création de deux galeries de verrières superposées ainsi que d'une large baie rectangulaire dans le bureau sur la façade est somptueusement décorées de vitraux colorés. La qualité du décor intérieur réalisé par Léopold Carlier est remarquable.

History
Originating from Rouergue, the family of Nattes settled at Saint-Thibéry in 1642. In 1759, they established themselves at Béziers. The hôtel de Nattes is situated on a large parcel formerly subdivided. It presents a particular implantation constrained by a block in the form of a prow. To the south, the façade with rustication, ordered on 3 levels, was pierced by a series of arcades. The openings of the storeys, with moulded frames are decorated with balcony guard-rails in elegant ironwork. The portal opens onto a circular porch-vestibule giving access to the courtyard, covered by a dome with a flattened barrel vault in ashlar. Originally, the walls were decorated with painted decoration revealed by the recent discovery of a large monumental cartouche in grisaille trompe-l'oeil. At the end of the 19th century, the new owner, Charles Victor Fulcrand Delpon de Vaux calls upon architect Léopold Carlier for remodelling projects. The architect creates, on the ground floor, two shops resulting in the suppression of the arcades on either side of the entrance. The first floor of the south wing is transformed in the eclectic taste of the day, notably with the creation of two superposed glass galleries as well as a wide rectangular opening in the office on the east façade sumptuously decorated with coloured stained glass. The quality of the interior decoration carried out by Léopold Carlier is remarkable.
