L'amphithéâtre romain est le seul monument de la ville antique dont les vestiges sont encore partiellement visibles. Les fondations sont encore présentes dans le sous-sol de la partie est, sous les bâtiments en élévation construits au Moyen-Age dans le quartier des « arènes romaines ». Abandonné au 3ème siècle, il a servi de carrière pour être finalement comblé au Moyen-Age, au niveau de l'arène. La partie haute fut, quant à elle, urbanisée, les immeubles prenant appui sur les structures antiques.

History
The Roman amphitheatre is the only monument of the ancient city whose remains are still partially visible. The foundations are still present in the subsoil of the eastern part, beneath the elevated buildings constructed in the Middle Ages in the neighbourhood of the 'Roman arenas'. Abandoned in the 3rd century, it served as a quarry before finally being filled in during the Middle Ages, at the level of the arena. The upper part was, for its part, developed with buildings, which rested upon the ancient structures.
