Les vestiges en élévation consistent en restes de courtines, plusieurs tours (notamment celles situées au nord-est et au nord-ouest) et fossés. A l'est, le mur de l'ancienne courtine conserve une élévation et l'emprise des fossés est lisible en avant de celui-ci et des tours nord.

History
The visible remains of the castle probably date to the 13th century. Dismantled in the 16th century and then reduced to a state of quarry, it was still partly standing in the early 19th century as mentioned in the cadastral survey of 1809. Pope Clement V sojourned at Montels. The remains in elevation consist of fragments of curtain walls, several towers (notably those situated to the north-east and north-west) and ditches. To the east, the wall of the former curtain retains an elevation and the trace of the ditches is readable in front of it and of the north towers.
