L'ensemble formé par les immeubles dits Baïsse et Balat paraît n'avoir formé qu'une seule construction autrefois. Les étages sont dans le même alignement, les plafonds sont semblables et les cheminées à peu près de la même époque. Il s'agissait là sans doute de la résidence d'un préposé de l'archevêque de Narbonne, seigneur de Capestang, peut-être son viguier temporel, très probablement un dignitaire du chapitre collégial. Les plafonds de Balat, contrairement à ceux de Baïsse, ne conservent pas de peintures décoratives d'origine. La cheminée, pour sa part, présente une décoration flamboyante. Les jambages sont ornés de trois séries de colonnettes à moulurations en cavet, et bases à moulurations entrecroisées. Le centre de la hotte est occupé par un motif flamboyant, très fouillé, composé d'arcatures et d'un enchevêtrement de soufflets et de mouchettes. Au centre se trouve un écu sans décor. Au-dessus, les vestiges mutilés de têtes d'anges ailés.

History
The ensemble formed by the buildings called Baïsse and Balat appears to have formed only a single construction formerly. The storeys are in the same alignment, the ceilings are similar and the chimneys are approximately of the same period. This was no doubt the residence of a representative of the archbishop of Narbonne, lord of Capestang, perhaps his temporal vicar, very probably a dignitary of the collegiate chapter. The Balat ceilings, unlike those of Baïsse, do not retain original decorative paintings. The chimney, for its part, presents Flamboyant decoration. The jambs are ornamented with three series of small colonnettes with cavetto mouldings, and bases with interlaced mouldings. The centre of the hood is occupied by a very elaborate Flamboyant motif, composed of arcatures and an interlacing of soffits and mouchettes. At the centre is found a shield with no decoration. Above, the mutilated remains of winged angel heads.
