Historique
Siège depuis 1950 du musée des arts décoratifs et du design, l'hôtel de Lalande fut construit en 1779, vraisemblablement par l'architecte bordelais Etienne Laclotte (1728-1812), pour le conseiller Pierre de Raymond de Lalande. L'hôtel fut loué à différents administrations au XIXe siècle, et notamment à la police municipale qui fit édifier en 1885 à l'emplacement des anciens jardins, par l'architecte municipal Marius Faget, une prison pour hommes et femmes. L'hôtel, couvert d'ardoises, est bâti entre cour et jardin. Exception notable, il possède deux cours distinctes, quoique de dimensions réduites, pour les écuries et les offices. Quoique abîmé par ses occupants successifs, l'hôtel comporte un décor d'architecture homogène dans le goût à la grecque, représentatif de goût à l'époque de sa construction.

History
Home since 1950 to the museum of decorative arts and design, the Hôtel de Lalande was built in 1779, presumably by the Bordeaux architect Etienne Laclotte (1728-1812), for the counsellor Pierre de Raymond de Lalande. The hôtel was rented to various administrations in the 19th century, and notably to the municipal police which had built in 1885 on the site of the former gardens, by the municipal architect Marius Faget, a prison for men and women. The hôtel, covered with slate, is built between court and garden. A notable exception, it possesses two distinct courts, though of reduced dimensions, for stables and offices. Although damaged by its successive occupants, the hôtel comprises decoration in an homogeneous architectural style in the Greek taste, representative of the taste of the period of its construction.
