Historique
Fouillé entre 2000 et 2004, le site de la chapelle Saint-Nazaire de Marissargues a révélé une occupation très ancienne. Les fouilles ont révélé la trace d'un prieuré du début du 11e siècle, dépendance de l'abbaye de Paslmody à Saint-Laurent d'Aigouze, abandonné au début du 15e siècle, mais surtout d'une église carolingienne à chevet plat, avec chancel décoré, entouré d'un vaste cimetière. La chapelle actuelle a été modifiée à plusieurs reprises. A la fin du 17e ou au début du 18e siècle, un logis ou ermitage fut accolé à l'édifice, au sud. À l'intérieur de la chapelle, des sondages ont laissé apparaître des peintures murales de différentes époques, remontant peut-être au 14e siècle.

History
Excavated between 2000 and 2004, the site of the chapel of Saint-Nazaire of Marissargues revealed very ancient occupation. The excavations revealed the trace of a priory of the early 11th century, a dependency of the abbey of Psalmody at Saint-Laurent d'Aigouze, abandoned in the early 15th century, but above all of a Carolingian church with flat chevet, with decorated chancel, surrounded by a vast cemetery. The current chapel was modified several times. At the end of the 17th century or beginning of the 18th century, a dwelling or hermitage was attached to the building, to the south. Inside the chapel, test pits revealed murals of different periods, possibly dating back to the 14th century.
