Cet ouvrage est issu du modèle conçu par Augustin Fresnel et son frère Léonor dans le cadre du premier grand programme français de signalisation maritime élaboré à partir de 1825. Entièrement construit en pierres de taille, il est constitué dune tour ronde, centrée sur un soubassement carré, dont le sommet supporte une terrasse couronnée dun garde-corps en fer. Lensemble est dominé par une lanterne métallique . Mis en service en 1836, le phare na pas connu de modification structurelle, à lexception de la lanterne et de lappareillage optique répondant aux évolutions techniques.

History
This work is derived from the model designed by Augustin Fresnel and his brother Léonor as part of the first major French maritime signalling programme developed from 1825 onwards. Entirely constructed in dressed stone, it consists of a round tower, centred on a square base, whose summit supports a terrace crowned with an iron guard-rail. The whole is dominated by a metal lantern. Put into service in 1836, the lighthouse has not undergone any structural modification, with the exception of the lantern and the optical apparatus responding to technical developments.
