Historique

History
The Morlaix Tobacco Manufactory, the only Old Regime manufactory that has retained to this day the industrial activity for which it was built, is the result of four main building campaigns. Drawn for the Farmers General by the king's architect François Blondel, it was built between 1736 and 1740 by the Parisian contractor Henri Pillet. The buildings arranged in three sets (manufactory, warehouses, dwelling) still exist, somewhat modified and surrounded by more recent constructions such as sheds, ovens and workshops built by Boyer from 1811 onwards, then new premises linked to the advent of steam, between 1868 and 1871. From this period notably remains the installation of rasping for snuff powder, designed by the engineers Mondésir and Debize. The fourth major campaign of work took place during the interwar period, notably with the construction of four buildings crowned by the cathedral, concrete roof structure imitating a wooden roof structure.
