Historique
Morlaix est situé au fond et sur les pentes d'un vallon profond, où les petites rivières du Jarle et du Kefflent s'unissent pour fermer l'estuaire du Dossen ou rivière de Morlaix, soumis au jeu de la marée. Le monumental viaduc du chemin de fer qui enjambe le vallon donne à Morlaix un aspect monumental et semble séparer la ville proprement dite du port, établi à l'origine même de l'estuaire, à 12 km de la mer. History
Morlaix is situated at the bottom and on the slopes of a deep valley, where the small rivers of the Jarle and the Kefflent unite to close the estuary of the Dossen or river of Morlaix, subject to tidal movements. The monumental railway viaduct which spans the valley gives Morlaix a monumental aspect and seems to separate the town proper from the port, established at the very origin of the estuary, 12 km from the sea. Built in 1861 for the railway by engineer Planchat, it measures 284 m long and 59 m high. This monumental work of art in stone bars the deep valley with its two storeys of arcades (9 at the bottom and 14 at the upper storey). The viaduct comprises on its first level a pedestrian passage connecting the scarps of the right bank to the left bank and at the second level the passage of the Paris-Brest railway line.
