Historique

History
In 1694, Vauban orders the construction of an observation and artillery tower on the island of Hébihens with the aim of strengthening the defence of Saint-Malo following the Anglo-Dutch attack in 1693. Designed according to the plans of Garangeau, its erection is completed in July 1697. Approximately 18 metres in height, it is a tower of truncated cone form implanted beside a tower of more restricted diameter and housing a spiral staircase, in accordance with the models of the towers of the island of Tatihou and the fort of la Hougue. Constructed in granite and sandstone, the tower is distinguished by the quality of its execution and its great authenticity and positions itself in the first rank of the defence system of the port of Saint-Malo.
