Historique

History
This redoubt is part of a set of fortifications established around Dijon after the defeat of 1870, and more broadly of the defences of the Eastern frontier, organised by General Séré de Rivières. The work was built from 1878 to 1879, to defend the highest point of Mont-Afrique and cover the fort of Motte-Giron. It was crowned, in 1921, by a very powerful lighthouse which was destroyed in the 1950s. The redoubt presents some particularities such as echauguettes at the angles of the curtain walls or the absence of an interior courtyard.
