Historique
Le fief de Mornay apparaît dans le cartulaire de l'abbaye de Fontmorigny en 1151. Une construction est attestée pour la première fois au milieu du 12e siècle. Le château actuel résulte de deux campagnes de construction. Une enceinte polygonale, renforcée par une tour porte de deux niveaux, élevée à la fin du 13e siècle ou du 14e, est reprise essentiellement dans la seconde moitié du 15e siècle ou au début du siècle suivant. Le logis actuel, en partie reconstruit au milieu du 18e siècle, rappelle que le site fut l'habitation de l'exploitant d'une tuilerie-briqueterie artisanale installée à cette époque dans une partie de l'ancienne basse-cour. Implantés à l'ouest de la maison noble, les derniers vestiges de cette basse-cour ont disparu vers 1900. Des jardins ont été créés à partir de 1987. £

History
The fief of Mornay appears in the cartulary of the abbey of Fontmorigny in 1151. A building is attested for the first time in the middle of the 12th century. The present castle results from two building campaigns. A polygonal enclosure, reinforced by a gate tower of two levels, erected in the late 13th century or 14th century, is taken up essentially in the second half of the 15th century or at the beginning of the following century. The present main dwelling, partly rebuilt in the middle of the 18th century, recalls that the site was the dwelling of an operator of an artisanal tile and brick works installed at that time in part of the former outer ward. Situated to the west of the noble house, the last vestiges of this outer ward disappeared around 1900. Gardens were created from 1987.
