L'hôtel d'Amblimont est construit en 1740-50 à côté de l'hôtel de Cheusses (Intendance) pour accueillir les ingénieurs du Roi. En 1762, Louis XV offre l'hôtel particulier à la comtesse d'Amblimont, amie de la marquise de Pompadour. Réattribué à la marine après la Révolution, il sert de casernement des troupes puis subit des remaniements pour l'installation de services administratifs. Pierre Loti, affecté aux services du port de la ville, y a eu son bureau, au gré de ses affectations, de 1881 à 1885. En 1992, il est mis en donation au Musée National de la Marine de Rochefort, situé à l'Hôtel de Cheusses depuis 1931. De gros travaux sont entamés à l'intérieur mais sont restés inachevés ; les cheminées à ornements et de nombreux décors et boiseries (lambris, parquets, poutres, ...) furent détruits pendant ces travaux et non conservés.
Description
L'hôtel se compose d'un corps principal à deux étages et de deux ailes en retour, formant un U, possédant également un jardin à l'arrière et une cour fermée par un portail à l'avant. S'ajoute une vaste cave au sous-sol du bâtiment. Quelques éléments des 18e siècle sont toujours en place (escaliers, quelques portes et poutres, lambris et quelques parquets).

History
The hôtel d'Amblimont is built in 1740-50 next to the hôtel de Cheusses (Intendance) to house the engineers of the King. In 1762, Louis XV offers the private mansion to the comtesse d'Amblimont, friend of the marquise de Pompadour. Reassigned to the navy after the Revolution, it serves as a barracks for troops then undergoes alterations for the installation of administrative services. Pierre Loti, assigned to the services of the port of the city, had his office there, according to his assignments, from 1881 to 1885. In 1992, it is put in donation to the National Maritime Museum of Rochefort, located at the Hôtel de Cheusses since 1931. Major works are undertaken inside but remained unfinished; the fireplaces with ornaments and numerous décor elements and woodwork (wainscoting, floorboards, beams, ...) were destroyed during these works and not preserved.
Description
The hôtel is composed of a main building with two storeys and two wings in return, forming a U, also possessing a garden at the rear and a courtyard closed by a gate at the front. There is also a vast cellar in the basement of the building. Some elements from the 18th century are still in place (staircases, some doors and beams, wainscoting and some floorboards).
