La construction de cet édifice accompagne d'autres bâtiments de la fin du 19e siècle, résidences de propriétaires de maisons de cognac. Le commanditaire de ce château serait Baptiste Vert, gérant de différentes sociétés de cognac. Il s'inscrit dans un parc qui descend en pente jusqu'au fleuve. La terrasse sur laquelle il est bâti, est délimitée par une balustrade de pierre servant de belvédère, au pied de laquelle un bassin avec une rocaille percée de grottes a été aménagée. Le logis est formé d'un corps central appuyé de deux ailes rectangulaires encadrant une galerie ouverte au sud ; de deux pavillons terminés par une tour ronde au nord, reliés par un couloir de distribution et encadrant un jardin d'hiver saillant. L'édifice s'élève sur un rez-de-chaussée sur soubassement, un étage et un comble. Chaque niveau est fortement marqué par une modénature particulière : bandeau, frise sculptée. L'appareil du mur contribue à la variété de cet ensemble dont chaque élément constitutif possède un détail original : frise d'arceau, encadrement de porte sculpté... Le décor intérieur est dû à des artistes d'une certaine renommée : faïence, décor peint, ferronnerie... La pièce la plus originale de cet ensemble est le salon d'hiver situé au nord. Il est doté d'un sol en mosaïque, d'un plafond en treillage en stuc, de dalles de verre, de tableaux de Lévigne.

History
The construction of this building accompanies other buildings from the late 19th century, residences of owners of cognac houses. The patron of this castle is thought to be Baptiste Vert, manager of various cognac companies. It is situated within a park that slopes down to the river. The terrace on which it is built is delimited by a stone balustrade serving as a belvedere, at the foot of which a basin with rockwork pierced with grottoes has been laid out. The main dwelling consists of a central block supported by two rectangular wings framing an open gallery to the south; two pavilions terminated by a round tower to the north, connected by a distribution corridor and framing a projecting winter garden. The building rises on a ground floor above a plinth, one storey and roof space. Each level is strongly marked by particular moulding: band, sculpted frieze. The wall construction contributes to the variety of this ensemble, each constituent element of which possesses an original detail: arch frieze, sculpted door surround... The interior decoration is the work of artists of some renown: earthenware, painted decoration, ironwork... The most original feature of this ensemble is the winter salon situated to the north. It is furnished with a mosaic floor, a ceiling in stucco lattice, glass tiles, paintings by Lévigne.
